Assam Premier League Launches to Boost Local Cricket Talent

The Assam Premier League (APL) has officially launched, marking a significant milestone for cricket in Assam. With eight franchises set to compete, the APL aims to provide a professional platform for emerging cricketers. Historic Launch of Assam Premier League

Guwahati (Assam) [India], June 21: The Assam Cricket Association (ACA) celebrated a significant milestone in the region's sports history with the launch of the Assam Premier League (APL) at the 91 Yards Club Auditorium, ACA Stadium, Barsapara, Guwahati.


This momentous event was attended by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, who officially introduced the league's logo, trophy, and team identities in the presence of Devajit Saikia, Honorary Secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), along with Taranga Gogoi, President of the Assam Cricket Association, and other dignitaries. The ACA described this initiative as the beginning of a structured competition aimed at nurturing local cricket talent.

The event began with a welcome speech by Rajdeep Oja, Chairperson of the Assam Premier League, who shared the league's vision and its importance in providing a professional platform for emerging cricketers while enhancing the quality of domestic cricket in Assam.


The introduction of the Assam Premier League is a pivotal step in ACA's mission to offer local players a consistent competitive environment and to expand the talent pool for Assam's white-ball tournaments and age-group teams.


During the event, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma remarked, “Cricket holds a special significance for the people of Assam, and the launch of the Assam Premier League marks a transformative moment for the sport in our state. This initiative will create a dedicated platform for young talents to demonstrate their skills and pursue their dreams at the highest levels. This league is for the people of Assam, and I believe it will evolve into one of the most influential state leagues in the future.”


Devajit Saikia, BCCI's Honorary Secretary, expressed, “The BCCI has consistently supported the development of robust domestic cricket, and a well-managed state league like the Assam Premier League will enhance the cricketing framework. Assam has tremendous cricketing potential, and this platform will provide talented players with essential competitive exposure. I congratulate the Assam Cricket Association on this significant initiative and wish them success for the league's inaugural season.”


Saikia also thanked Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma for his vision and leadership, which have positioned Assam as a rising hub in India's sports landscape.


The unveiling of the APL logo, trophy, and team identities marks a key milestone as preparations continue for the league's first season. More information regarding the player auction, tournament schedule, and additional details will be announced soon.
