Assam Governor Launches 47th State Level Athletics Championship in Nalbari
Inauguration of the Championship
Nalbari (Assam) - On July 24, Assam's Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya officially opened the 47th State Level Senior and Junior Athletics Championship 2026 at the Nalbari Stadium, located in Sarihathali. He encouraged the youth to engage in sports as a way to cultivate character, discipline, resilience, and a sense of national pride.
Event Organization and Attendance
The Assam Athletics Association, in collaboration with the Nalbari District Administration and the Nalbari District Sports Association, is organizing this championship. Notable attendees included Assam's Finance and Forest Minister Jayanta Mallabaruah and Sports Minister Biswajit Daimary.
Governor's Remarks on Participation
During the opening ceremony, Governor Acharya expressed his delight at the participation of nearly 1,200 athletes from various parts of Assam. He noted, “This enthusiastic involvement showcases the growing sports culture in our state and is crucial for achieving the vision of Viksit Bharat by 2047.”

He mentioned renowned athletes such as Bhogeshwar Baruah, Hima Das, Amlan Borgohain, and Moumita Mondal, along with boxing stars Lovlina Borgohain and Shiva Thapa, and archer Jayanta Talukdar, stating that their accomplishments continue to motivate young athletes to strive for excellence.

He also commended Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for developing world-class sports infrastructure and promoting grassroots talent in Assam.
