Seoul [South Korea], August 9: Indian badminton player Ashmita Chaliha achieved a significant milestone by winning her first BWF World Tour title, overcoming China's Han Qianxi with scores of 14-21, 21-14, 21-14 in the women's singles final at the Korea Masters on Sunday.

The 26-year-old athlete made a remarkable comeback after dropping the first game, marking her place in history as the fifth Indian woman to secure a BWF World Tour Super 300 title or higher.

Chaliha began the match evenly matched with Han, reaching a tie at 11-11 in the first game. However, the Chinese player surged ahead, clinching the game 21-14.

In the second game, Chaliha showcased her skills with powerful shots and solid defense, leading 11-8 at the mid-game break. She maintained her momentum, extending her lead to 17-10 before winning the game 21-14 with a decisive smash, forcing a final game.

The deciding game saw both competitors battling fiercely for every point. Han initially led 11-9 at the mid-game interval, but Chaliha elevated her performance in the latter half. She regained the lead with accurate shots and aggressive play, moving ahead to 12-11 and then extending her advantage to 15-11 with another excellent shot that landed just inside the line.

Chaliha continued her dominance, reaching 19-14 with a cross-court winner. Han's return went out, sealing the match and marking the biggest victory of Chaliha's career.

This win not only represents Chaliha's first BWF World Tour title but also places her among the elite group of Indian women who have won a BWF World Tour Super 300 or higher title, joining the ranks of Saina Nehwal, PV Sindhu, Devika Sihag, and Tanvi Sharma.

The Korea Masters title is a testament to Chaliha's determination and skill, especially against a formidable opponent ranked No. 35 in the world.
