Arshdeep Singh Joins North Zone Squad for Duleep Trophy
North Zone Squad Announcement for Duleep Trophy
On Monday, India's left-arm fast bowler Arshdeep Singh was selected for the North Zone team set to compete in the upcoming Duleep Trophy. Kanhaiya Wadhawan, a wicketkeeper-batter from Jammu and Kashmir, has been appointed as the captain of the 15-member squad.
Arshdeep, known for his skills in white-ball cricket for the national team, was part of the Test squad during the 2025 England tour. However, injuries and team dynamics prevented him from making his debut in red-ball cricket.
Another player who has been left out of the Test team, Anshul Kamboj from Haryana, has also been included in the North Zone lineup for the tournament commencing on August 23.
Following Jammu and Kashmir's remarkable victory in the Ranji Trophy, the selectors have rewarded the team with six players in the squad. Alongside Wadhawan, the team features opener Qamran Iqbal, all-rounder Abdul Samad, left-arm spinner Abid Mushtaq, pacer Sunil Kumar, and fast bowler Yudhvir Singh.
Ayush Badoni from Delhi has been named vice-captain, while veteran skipper Paras Dogra from Jammu and Kashmir, aged 41, was not selected as the Duleep Trophy focuses on players aiming to establish themselves at the national level.
Pacer Auqib Nabi will miss the tournament due to national duty commitments.
Delhi follows Jammu and Kashmir in representation, with opener Sanat Sangwan, former captain Yash Dhull, middle-order batter Ayush Doseja, and Badoni making the squad.
Regular India A players Nishant Sindhu, Abid Mushtaq, and Arjun Sharma will provide options in spin and all-round capabilities.
The North Zone squad includes: Kanhaiya Wadhawan (Captain), Ayush Badoni (Vice-Captain), Sanat Sangwan, Qamran Iqbal, Yash Dhull, Ayush Doseja, Abdul Samad, Nishant Sindhu, Arjun Sharma, Abid Mushtaq, Arshdeep Singh, Sunil Kumar, Anshul Kamboj, Yudhvir Singh, and Nikhil Kashyap.
