Anju Bobby George Celebrates Record-Breaking Performances of Indian Athletes

Anju Bobby George, a former Olympian and AFI Vice President, is thrilled with the recent achievements of Indian athletes, who have broken around 26 national records this season. She expresses optimism for India's performance at the upcoming Asian Games and Commonwealth Games, especially after Ancy Sojan shattered her long-standing long jump record. Additionally, javelin thrower Rohit Yadav has made headlines with his impressive throw, ranking second globally. Indian Athletics on the Rise

Bhubaneswar (Odisha) - Former Olympian and Vice President of the Athletics Federation of India, Anju Bobby George, expressed her excitement regarding the impressive performances of Indian athletes this season. She noted that the recent breaking of numerous national records signifies significant progress in Indian athletics as they prepare for major international events.


In an interview, Anju highlighted that around 26 national records have been shattered across various events this year, showcasing the talent and hard work of the athletes.


The former long jumper is optimistic about India's prospects at the upcoming Asian Games and Commonwealth Games, believing that the athletes are poised to achieve a better medal tally.


Anju also praised Ancy Sojan for breaking her long-standing national long jump record, calling Sojan's leap of 6.88 meters a remarkable achievement and a promising indicator for the future of Indian athletics.


She stated, "This year has been particularly remarkable, with multiple national records set. I am thrilled that Ancy Sojan has surpassed my record after 22 years with her world-class jump of 6.88 meters. I am hopeful for more medals at the Asian Games and Commonwealth Games."


Additionally, Anju honored Ancy Sojan at the National Inter-State Senior Athletics Championships in Bhubaneswar for her record-breaking performance.


In another highlight, javelin thrower Rohit Yadav secured the second position in the global rankings for men's javelin throw, achieving an impressive throw of 87.05 meters on the final day of the championships at Kalinga Stadium.


The 25-year-old athlete's throw not only earned him gold but also positioned him as the top Indian javelin thrower this season, trailing only behind Sri Lanka's Rumesh Tharanga Pathirage, who leads with a throw of 92.62 meters. Notably, two-time Olympic and world medallist Neeraj Chopra is currently ranked fourth globally with a throw of 85.69 meters. Rohit Yadav's previous best was 83.04 meters, and his latest throw surpassed the meet record of 84.35 meters set by Manu DP in 2022.
