Andre Coley Takes Over as Interim Head Coach for West Indies Women's Cricket Team
New Leadership for West Indies Women's Team
On November 4, Cricket West Indies (CWI) announced that Andre Coley has been appointed as the interim head coach for the women's cricket team, just ahead of their series against Pakistan.
Coley will lead the team during this series, collaborating with the current support staff as they gear up for the matches, according to information from the ICC.
The Jamaican coach has a wealth of experience, having held various coaching positions within West Indies cricket. Notably, he was the head coach for the West Indies men's team during the 2010 ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup, where they secured a third-place finish.
Coley succeeds Shane Deitz, who has stepped down after three years in charge of the women's team. His departure was confirmed by CWI, stating that his tenure officially concluded on October 31, following a mutually agreed decision.
During Deitz's leadership, the West Indies reached the semi-finals of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in both 2024 and 2026.
Reflecting on his time, Deitz expressed gratitude towards the players, staff, and CWI for their support, wishing the team continued success. He noted, “Shane took this team to two World Cup semi-finals in a row, and that is now the standard this group holds itself to. We thank him for it.”
CWI's director of cricket, Miles Bascombe, praised Coley’s extensive experience within the West Indies cricket framework, including his recent involvement with the Men’s A-Team. He emphasized the importance of a smooth transition for the team’s preparations against Pakistan.
The West Indies women's team recently celebrated victories in both the ODI series (2-1) and the T20I series (3-0) against Zimbabwe.
