Ancy Sojan Reflects on Silver Medal Win at Asian Games
Ancy Sojan's Silver Medal Achievement
Aichi-Nagoya, Japan - On September 27, Ancy Sojan expressed her pride in securing a silver medal in the women's long jump at the Asian Games, despite feeling it wasn't her best performance.
Sojan shared that she exerted her utmost effort, even while contending with fatigue, muscle stiffness, and numbness during the event. She views this silver medal as a valuable learning opportunity, emphasizing that each achievement helps her gain insights and recognize areas for growth. She dedicated this medal to herself and to all those who have supported her throughout her journey.
Sojan narrowly missed out on the gold, finishing just two centimeters behind China's Huang Yingying, who won with a jump of 6.55 meters. Another Chinese competitor, Tan Mengyi, claimed the bronze with a jump of 6.46 meters, while India's Shaili Singh came in fourth with a best jump of 6.42 meters.
Reflecting on her performance, Sojan stated, "I feel proud to have won silver again... it just wasn't my day today. I gave my all, but fate decided on silver... I experienced fatigue and muscle stiffness, but every medal and success is a lesson that makes me more experienced... I dedicate this medal to myself and to those who have encouraged me throughout this journey," she remarked after the event.
On the same day, India added seven more medals to its tally at the 2026 Asian Games, yet this was insufficient to maintain a position in the top 10 of the medal standings.
By the end of Day 8, India had accumulated a total of 37 medals, including four gold, 16 silver, and 17 bronze, dropping from 10th to 12th place. This decline occurred despite the seven medals won, as other countries continued to enhance their gold medal counts.
India's medal haul on Sunday included two silver medals in squash and five medals in athletics, showcasing several impressive performances in track and field events.
