Anahat Singh's Journey at Silicon Valley Open Ends with Defeat
Anahat Singh's Campaign Concludes in Redwood City
In California, on October 24, India's rising squash star Anahat Singh faced a setback at the Silicon Valley Open tournament, losing 3-1 to Malaysia's Sivasangari Subramaniam. This match marked the conclusion of the 18-year-old's participation in the event held in Redwood City.
Anahat started strong, clinching the first game with an 11-5 score. However, Sivasangari quickly turned the tide, winning the subsequent three games to secure her victory with scores of 5-11, 11-6, 11-4, and 11-7.
It's worth noting that Sivasangari had previously thwarted Anahat's bid for a gold medal in the women's singles squash event at the 2026 Asian Games in Japan.
Following her semifinal win, Sivasangari commended Anahat's skills, labeling her a formidable competitor. She acknowledged Anahat's status as one of the top players despite her youth, stating that she initially struggled but regained her form by enhancing her accuracy, which ultimately shifted the match in her favor.
"Anahat is incredibly talented and poses a significant threat. She is undoubtedly among the top players now, and her youth is an advantage. I began the match slowly but managed to find my rhythm, and I'm pleased with how I concluded the game. It was crucial to avoid getting caught up in her style of play; it wasn't merely about executing the best shots, but rather about honing my accuracy. Once I achieved that, the dynamics of the game changed. There were areas I could have improved, but overall, I'm satisfied with my performance," she remarked, as reported by the PSA website.
Earlier in the tournament, Anahat made headlines by reaching the semifinals after a thrilling 3-2 victory over world No. 14 Salma Hany, with match scores of 4-11, 11-8, 4-11, 11-2, and 11-5 in a 42-minute contest. This achievement made her the first Indian woman squash player since 2019 to reach the semifinals of a PSA Tour Gold-level event, marking her debut at this stage.
