On Saturday, the 25th, a significant milestone was achieved in Indian sports as Anahat Singh triumphed in the Junior World Championship, becoming the first Indian woman to do so. She secured her victory against Egypt's Ruqayya Salem, winning the final match with scores of 11-3, 11-7, and 11-9 at the White Oaks Resort & Spa in Niagara-on-the-Lake. This win is particularly noteworthy as Anahat is the first non-Egyptian champion since 2010, when Amanda Shobby from the USA defeated Nour El Tayeb in Cologne.

This victory marks Anahat's second medal at the Junior World Championships, having previously earned a bronze in 2025. Additionally, she broke Amina Orif's four-year winning streak, although Orif was not eligible to compete this year. The Egyptian dominance in this tournament began in 2011 when El Tayeb won against Nour El Sherbini, and it continued for 5479 days until Anahat's recent win. Notably, there has not been a final in the 21st century without an Egyptian player, with the last non-Egyptian final occurring in 1999.

Furthermore, Anahat is only the second Asian to win this championship, following Malaysia's Nicol David, who won in 1999 and 2021. Over the tournament's 30 editions, Egyptian players have claimed the title 17 times, while Englishwomen have won it five times, Australians thrice, and Malaysians twice. Anahat is also the second Indian to reach the final, following Joshna Chinappa's appearance in 2005.
