Celebrating Amanat Kamboj's Historic Win
Upon her return to Fazilka, 18-year-old Amanat Kamboj was greeted with enthusiasm after clinching the gold medal in the discus throw at the Asian U-20 Athletics Championships 2026 held in Hong Kong.
Amanat achieved this remarkable feat on May 29, recording a top throw of 52.24 meters, which secured her position at the forefront of the competition.
Ferozepur MP Sher Singh Ghubaya, along with various NGO representatives, honored her with garlands during her homecoming celebration.
In an interview with a local media outlet, Amanat’s father and coach, Hakam Chand Kamboj, shared that she previously earned a silver medal at the 2024 Asian U-20 Championships and has now fulfilled her dream of winning gold.
“I dedicated myself intensely over the last two years to transform my silver into gold,” Amanat expressed. “This moment is incredibly special as I fulfill my father's aspirations and receive such a heartfelt welcome from my hometown, Fazilka.”
Hakam, who works with the Railway Protection Force (RPF) in Jalalabad, expressed that Amanat's success is a dream realized for him as well. As a former national-level discus thrower, he noted that he never achieved an international gold medal during his own athletic career.
Additionally, Amanat, who is currently a first-year Bachelor of Arts student at Chandigarh University, has qualified for the upcoming World Athletics U-20 Championships set to take place in the United States on August 5.
