AIFF Launches Nationwide Consultation for India's First National Football Philosophy
AIFF Initiates Consultation for National Football Framework
The All India Football Federation (AIFF) has unveiled plans for a nationwide consultation aimed at creating India's inaugural National Football Philosophy. This initiative seeks to establish a cohesive framework that standardizes the approach to playing, teaching, and developing football throughout the nation.
The primary goal of this initiative is to rectify persistent inconsistencies in talent scouting and player development, ensuring a seamless transition from grassroots levels to national teams, as highlighted in an AIFF press release.
Upon completion, this philosophy will serve as a guiding document for coach education, competition formats, and development programs across the country.
The AIFF emphasizes that this process should be grassroots-driven, encouraging input from coaches, players, clubs, academies, member associations, and fans. Participants will be asked to provide their insights on six key areas: vision and identity, game model, player profile, development pathways, coaching strategies, and implementation.
Individuals interested in contributing to this initiative can submit their details via a Google form available on the AIFF's official website.
This framework comes in light of India's recent struggles in football, both on and off the pitch. The national team's performance has seen a decline, dropping to 136th in the FIFA men's football rankings. Aside from securing third place in the CAFA Nations Cup last year, India has struggled to make a significant impact internationally.
In recent months, the Indian Super League (ISL), which showcases national stars like Sunil Chhetri and Sandesh Jhinghan alongside international talent, has faced challenges in attracting interest. The league, typically held from September to April, commenced on February 14 this year after a delay in securing bidders. Following a period of uncertainty, the digital and television broadcasting rights were awarded to FanCode.
The league's launch was delayed due to disputes between the AIFF and its partner, Football Sports Development Limited (FSDL), stemming from unresolved contractual issues.
