He questions the abilities of the players and the board's decisions, highlighting a lack of accountability among the cricketers. Shehzad's remarks shed light on the ongoing challenges within Pakistan cricket, emphasizing the need for change and responsibility. His insights reflect a growing concern over the future of cricket in Pakistan, making it a crucial topic for fans and analysts alike.

Pakistan Cricket Faces Growing Challenges

The situation in Pakistan cricket has worsened as veteran batter Ahmed Shehzad openly criticized the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) following their poor performance in the recent T20 World Cup 2026, compounded by a disappointing 2-1 ODI series loss to Bangladesh. Shehzad did not shy away from addressing the PCB's shortcomings, indirectly targeting Mohsin Naqvi, the board's head, by questioning the capabilities of the players selected for the national team and their potential to alter the trajectory of Pakistan cricket.

“The quality of the players does not match the standards that the PCB promoted during the Pakistan Super League (PSL) five to seven years ago. These 6-8 players are not only the face of the PSL but also represent our national team. Can they really change the fate of Pakistan cricket?” Shehzad remarked on his YouTube channel.

He pointed out that despite the support and sponsorship these players have received, it has not resulted in any significant achievements for Pakistan cricket. While they continue to enjoy the benefits, the outcomes have been disappointing.

Shehzad's Strong Words for PCB

“You provided sponsorships, endorsed them, and invested in them. You made them captains in the PSL, right? You handed the entire Pakistan cricket team to those six players and their agents. What have they accomplished? They have indulged in parties and filled their pockets, yet they have not delivered any victories for Pakistan,” he stated.

Shehzad accused the current players of shifting blame instead of taking accountability for their failures. He criticized the board for repeatedly selecting the same underperforming players, indicating a lack of resolve to address the core issues, which he believes has rendered the PCB ineffective in its history.

PCB's Weakness Under Scrutiny

“The players' arrogance is such that they refuse to accept responsibility. Not one of them is willing to admit their faults. They continue to play the blame game, and their egos remain intact. The PCB is now incredibly weak,” he asserted.

“Whenever a player is discussed, they spin tales. I have never witnessed the PCB in such a weak state. They possess power, yet they seem to bow to their players in decision-making. This PCB is incapable of making the necessary changes. After every event, they attempt to pull a new stunt, but the public has recognized their pattern,” the 34-year-old added.

Shehzad, once considered a promising talent for Pakistan, has had a modest international career, featuring in only 13 Test matches and 81 ODIs. He accumulated 982 runs in Tests at an average of 40.92, including three centuries. His ODI average is 32.56, with 2605 runs at a strike rate of 72.09. In T20s, he played 59 matches, scoring 1471 runs at an average of 25.81 and a strike rate of 114.84, with six ODI centuries and one T20 century to his name. Notably, he was the first Pakistani to score a T20I century in just 58 balls against Bangladesh during the 2014 T20 World Cup.
