Afghanistan Completes Clean Sweep Against Zimbabwe

Sharjah [UAE], November 2: Afghanistan achieved a remarkable 3-0 clean sweep over Zimbabwe in their three-match T20I series, concluding with a decisive seven-wicket win in the final match held in Sharjah on Sunday.

Spinner Noor Ahmad emerged as the star of the match, effectively dismantling Zimbabwe's batting lineup, leading to their dismissal for a mere 79 runs in less than 15 overs.

Choosing to bowl first, Afghanistan made an immediate impact, with Fazalhaq Farooqi and Azmatullah Omarzai taking wickets in consecutive overs, sending Zimbabwean openers Innocent Kaia and Brian Bennett back to the pavilion.

Abdullah Tarakhail then struck, removing Zimbabwe's captain Sikandar Raza, leaving the visitors struggling at 13/3 by the fourth over.

Ryan Burl tried to stabilize the innings with a resilient 30 runs but was eventually trapped LBW by Abdollah Ahmadzai.

Noor Ahmad then took control, swiftly taking down the Zimbabwean middle and lower order, resulting in their total collapse and all-out for 79 runs.

In response, Afghanistan launched their chase with aggression, as Mohammad Akram hit 14 runs off just five balls before being dismissed by Blessing Muzarabani. Sediqullah Atal maintained the momentum, scoring 20 runs off 14 balls before falling to Ernest Masuku.

Masuku struck again, taking out Noor ul Rahman, giving Zimbabwe a glimmer of hope for a comeback.

However, Ibrahim Zadran (25 not out) and Azmatullah Omarzai (18 not out) ensured a smooth finish for Afghanistan, sealing the match with seven wickets in hand.

Afghanistan had already secured the series with a 2-0 lead after winning the first two matches.

In the second T20I, Omarzai delivered a stunning performance, scoring 116 runs off just 50 balls, helping Afghanistan to a narrow 19-run victory over Zimbabwe. Despite a brilliant 106 off 56 balls from Raza, Zimbabwe could not chase down the target.

Rashid Khan also played a pivotal role in the series opener, showcasing an impressive all-round performance that led Afghanistan to a 37-run victory.

With the T20I series concluded, both teams will now shift their focus to the longer format, as they prepare for a two-match Test series starting on November 5.
