Andrew Puttick to Leave Afghanistan Cricket Board

Kabul [Afghanistan], November 3: The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) has officially announced that Andrew Puttick, the batting coach, will be leaving his position at the end of December when his contract expires.

Puttick, a former South African cricketer, joined the Afghanistan coaching staff in January 2024. Under his guidance, the batting unit made significant strides, evolving from an unpredictable team to a formidable side capable of chasing down challenging targets.

During his time with the team, Afghanistan achieved a historic milestone by reaching the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup 2024, held in the USA and the Caribbean. They notably defeated both New Zealand and Australia during the group stage and Super 8s.

In the ODI World Cup 2023, Afghanistan secured victories against England, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka. They came close to defeating Australia but fell short against Glenn Maxwell's remarkable unbeaten score of 201.

In a statement on X, the ACB expressed its heartfelt appreciation for Puttick's commitment and contributions as the national team's batting coach. They highlighted his role in improving the technical and mental aspects of the players, which led to several impressive performances across different formats.

“His professionalism, calm demeanor, and dedication to player development have made a lasting impact on both the coaching staff and the players. Although his journey with ACB began in January 2024, his contract will officially end on December 31, 2025. We thank Andrew for his hard work and passion for Afghanistan cricket, and we wish him success in his future coaching endeavors,” the ACB concluded.

Shortly after this announcement, the ACB also confirmed that head coach Jonathan Trott's tenure will conclude following the ICC T20 World Cup, set to begin in February next year. This decision aligns with the ACB's strategic planning for the future development of the national team.

Trott, who has been at the helm of the Afghanistan National Team since 2022, has played a crucial role in the players' growth and the team's increasing competitiveness on the international stage.
