Afghanistan Achieves Historic Sixth Place in ICC ODI Rankings
Afghanistan's Remarkable Ascent in ODI Rankings
Sharjah [UAE], November 2: Afghanistan has made history by securing the sixth position in the ICC Men's ODI Team Rankings, surpassing Sri Lanka to reach their highest ranking ever in One Day Internationals.
Since their ODI debut in 2009, Afghanistan has experienced a significant rise in the world of cricket, establishing themselves as a formidable competitor across various formats, according to the ICC's official website.
Their impressive journey includes landmark victories against Pakistan and Sri Lanka during the 2023 ICC Men's Cricket World Cup, as well as their first semi-final appearance at the 2024 ICC Men's T20 World Cup.
With 96 wins out of 191 ODI matches, Afghanistan boasts a commendable win-loss ratio of 1.09, showcasing their consistent improvement in the 50-over format.
Having outperformed established cricketing nations like Bangladesh, England, and the West Indies, Afghanistan has now entered the top six of the ODI rankings for the first time.
This latest achievement has been propelled by a series of strong performances, including a 4-0 series victory against Ireland and an unbeaten run in a recent tri-series featuring Zimbabwe and Bangladesh.
The team has also maintained their winning streak in T20Is, achieving a clean sweep of 3-0 against Zimbabwe.
In their final T20I match in Sharjah, Afghanistan secured a convincing seven-wicket victory, with spinner Noor Ahmad shining by dismantling Zimbabwe's batting order, leading to their dismissal for just 79 runs in under 15 overs.
Looking ahead, Afghanistan is set to face Zimbabwe in a two-match Test series, aiming to extend their impressive form in international cricket.
