The Aditya Birla Group, a prominent multinational corporation led by billionaire Kumar Mangalam Birla, has taken the lead in a consortium that has secured the rights to the Indian Premier League (IPL) team, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). This landmark deal marks RCB as the most expensive franchise in the history of the IPL.


Joining the Birla Group in this venture are notable American sports investor David Blitzer, the US private equity firm Blackstone, and the Times of India. Reports indicate that the franchise was sold for an astonishing $1.8 billion (approximately Rs. 16,896 crores at the current exchange rate). This transaction sets a new record in cricket, surpassing the previous highest sale of the Rajasthan Royals, which was valued at $1.63 billion (around Rs. 15,300 crores) and was finalized today with a consortium led by Kal Somani.
