Significant Recognition for the Adani Ahmedabad Marathon

Ahmedabad (Gujarat) [India], October 5: The Adani Ahmedabad Marathon has officially been added to the World Athletics Global Calendar, a notable achievement as it gears up for its 10th edition scheduled for November 29, 2026, as stated in a recent press release.

World Athletics serves as the international governing body for athletics, overseeing the sport across 214 member federations and establishing standards for global athletics competitions. The Global Calendar features recognized events worldwide, providing athletes, federations, and the broader athletics community with a unified global reference.

For the Adani Ahmedabad Marathon, this listing signifies that performances during the race will be eligible for inclusion in the World Athletics Rankings. Additionally, it positions Ahmedabad on the international road-racing calendar, granting the city a spot among globally recognized races.

This acknowledgment highlights the event's adherence to high standards, including accurate course measurement and certification, race management, medical readiness, timing and results, elite athlete oversight, and compliance with relevant athletics and anti-doping regulations.

The marathon's journey has been remarkable, evolving from a few thousand participants to a major city-wide event, with over 24,000 runners participating in the last edition. Each year, the streets of Ahmedabad come alive with runners, volunteers, families, and Armed Forces personnel joining in the festivities.

The marathon's connection to the city is further strengthened through its #Run4OurSoldiers initiative, which has united citizens and the Armed Forces for a decade to honor the bravery, service, and sacrifices of India's soldiers, giving the event a purpose that transcends the race itself.

This recognition arrives as Ahmedabad prepares for the 2030 Commonwealth Games. The inclusion of its flagship marathon in the World Athletics Global Calendar represents a significant milestone in the city's efforts to foster a robust sporting culture.

Sanjay Adesara, Chief Business Officer of Adani Sportsline, expressed pride in the marathon's inclusion in the Global Calendar, acknowledging the collective efforts that have shaped the event. He stated, “Being part of the World Athletics Global Calendar is a proud moment for everyone who has made this marathon what it is today, from the runners and volunteers to the Armed Forces personnel who run alongside us. This recognition validates the standards we have built, including course certification, runner safety, timing systems, and elite athlete management. Ahmedabad celebrates this marathon as a festival, with people from every neighborhood coming onto the streets together. As we head into our 10th edition, we remain committed to giving this city a race worthy of this recognition.”
