Zampa's Decision to Skip IPL 2026

Adam Zampa has shared insights into why he opted out of the current season of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2026). Following his release from Sunrisers Hyderabad, the leg-spinner did not participate in last year's mini-auction. Zampa expressed his dissatisfaction with the financial offer, considering his skills and the two-month commitment required for the IPL. Over five seasons, he has played for four different teams but has only made 22 appearances, with last year's auction seeing him sold to Sunrisers Hyderabad for Rs 2.40 crore, his highest earnings to date. He remarked, "I withdrew from the IPL this year. To be honest, for someone with my abilities, the compensation doesn't match that of other skill sets. Given the time investment of the IPL, it didn't seem like a sensible choice for me to continue playing it," during an interview on the ARY Podcast.

Currently, Zampa is participating in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2026 with the Karachi Kings, who are captained by David Warner. He was acquired for PKR 4.5 crore, approximately Rs 1.51 crore, during the PSL auction. "I was initially planning to take a break, but the PSL opportunity came up about a month ago. It all unfolded quickly, and I'm enjoying the experience," Zampa noted.

Even though he is not part of the IPL this season, Zampa holds the record for the most wickets taken by a spinner in IPL history, with six wickets in a single match. His remarkable debut in 2016 saw him achieve figures of 4-0-19-6 while playing for the Rising Pune Supergiants against Sunrisers Hyderabad in Visakhapatnam. In the ongoing PSL 2026, he has claimed three wickets at an impressive economy rate of 4.62 across two matches. With a total of 147 wickets in 115 T20 International games, he stands as Australia's leading wicket-taker in this format.
