Adam Voges Joins Seattle Orcas as Head Coach

New Delhi [India], December 3: Adam Voges, the outgoing head coach of Western Australia, is set to lead the Seattle Orcas in the forthcoming Major League Cricket (MLC) season, marking a significant addition to his T20 coaching portfolio, according to reports from a sports media outlet.

Voges replaces Matthew Mott, who was dismissed after the Orcas faced five consecutive losses at the start of the 2025 season. Following Voges' announcement of his departure from WA at the end of the domestic season, speculation grew about his potential move to an MLC team.

Expressing his enthusiasm, Voges stated, "I am very excited to be joining the Seattle Orcas for the upcoming season." He emphasized the growth of the MLC and his eagerness to collaborate with the owners, players, and staff to achieve success both on and off the field.

Since taking over from Justin Langer in 2018, Voges has led WA to a period of remarkable success and is often considered a future candidate for the Australia head coach position, currently held by Andrew McDonald until 2027. McDonald has hinted he may not pursue an extension after his initial contract.

Voges has experience coaching Australia A and has been involved with the national team setup as well.

Currently, he aims to expand his coaching experience within the T20 franchise circuit. Reports indicate that he has also joined the Trent Rockets in the Hundred as an assistant coach.

WA Cricket is in talks with Voges about potentially remaining as head coach for the Perth Scorchers in the Big Bash League (BBL), a role in which he led the team to consecutive championships in BBL11 and BBL12, having also lifted the trophy twice as captain.

Assistant coaches Beau Casson and Tim MacDonald are likely candidates to succeed Voges as WA's next head coach.

With an impressive batting average of 61.87 from 20 Tests, Voges now faces the challenge of revitalizing the Orcas, who have struggled since their runner-up finish in the inaugural MLC season, managing only four wins in 17 matches during the 2024-25 cycle.

Orcas chief Hemant Dua expressed excitement about Voges joining the team, stating, "We are thrilled to welcome Adam Voges to the Seattle Orcas family. He brings a proven pedigree of winning, a distinctive ability to develop world-class talent, and a deep understanding of the nuances of T20 franchise cricket."

Dua further noted, "His dominant run with Western Australia and the Perth Scorchers speaks to his expertise. We believe Adam's calm demeanor, tactical intelligence, and commitment to building a high-performance culture will be pivotal as we aim for the Major League Cricket title."

He concluded, "We are building something special in Seattle, and Adam is undoubtedly the right person to lead the charge."

The Orcas are co-owned by GMR Group and JSW Sports, who also jointly own the Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and Women's Premier League (WPL), along with teams in SA20 (Pretoria Capitals) and the International League T20 (ILT20) (Dubai Capitals).
