Morocco's journey to victory was marked by a dramatic comeback against Haiti, who initially took the lead with a goal from Lenny Joseph, resulting from a mix-up in the Moroccan defense. This goal, scored in the 10th minute, was particularly significant as it marked Haiti's first World Cup goal in over five decades.
Morocco responded with relentless pressure, equalizing in the 39th minute when Hakimi scored after a rebound from a saved shot by Bilal El Khannouss. However, Haiti quickly regained the lead just before halftime with a stunning long-range goal from Wilson Isidor.
The first half ended with Morocco equalizing again in stoppage time, thanks to Ismael Saibari's goal from a well-placed cross by Hakimi, making it 2-2 at the break.
In the second half, Morocco dominated possession, controlling nearly 70% of the ball and creating numerous scoring opportunities. Despite Haiti's disciplined defense and key saves from goalkeeper Johny Placide, Morocco's persistence paid off.
Key substitutions around the 70th minute brought fresh energy to Morocco's attack, leading to Soufiane Rahimi scoring in the 78th minute after capitalizing on a loose ball from a corner.
As Haiti sought to equalize, Morocco exploited the space left behind, with Rahimi assisting Gessime Yassine for a final goal in the 89th minute, sealing the match at 4-2.
Morocco's impressive performance included 22 shots, with 11 on target, showcasing their dominance in the latter stages of the game. Despite the loss, Haiti's spirited effort and historic goal were commendable, while Morocco's resilience highlighted their readiness for the knockout phase.
