Nisshin, Oct 3: In a thrilling gold medal match at the Asian Games, Abhishek Sharma set a new record for the fastest fifty by an Indian against Pakistan in T20 internationals. His explosive performance helped India secure a total of 211/6 in 20 overs at Korogi Sports Park.

Abhishek reached his fifty in a mere 20 balls, surpassing his previous record of 24 balls set against Pakistan in Dubai in 2025. Following his lead, Tilak Varma also made a significant contribution with a quickfire fifty off 21 balls, showcasing contrasting styles throughout the innings.

Abhishek concluded his innings with 61 runs off 28 balls, including three fours and seven sixes. His partnership with Shivam Dube added 62 runs for the sixth wicket, providing India with a robust finish.

Winning the toss, Shreyas Iyer chose to bat first. Vaibhav Sooryavanshi started strong but was dismissed for 15 runs in the third over. Shortly after, Sanju Samson fell victim to Ahmed Daniyal, leaving India in a precarious position.

Abhishek then took charge, aggressively attacking the Pakistani bowlers during the powerplay. His innings ended in the eighth over when Arafat Minhas claimed his wicket, but he had already set a solid foundation for the team.

Despite a brief period of spin-induced pressure from Pakistan, which slowed down Shreyas Iyer (21 off 24 balls) and Ishan Kishan (20 off 18 balls), Tilak and Dube revitalized the innings in the final overs.

The duo accelerated the scoring, amassing 12 runs off Abrar Ahmed in the 17th over, 18 runs off Sufyan Moqim in the 18th, and an impressive 23 runs off Saim Ayub in the 19th over.

Tilak's fifty, achieved in 21 balls, marked the second-fastest for India against Pakistan in T20Is, following Abhishek's record earlier in the match.

The partnership of 62 runs between Tilak and Dube ranks as the second-highest for the sixth wicket or lower in a T20I tournament final with five or more teams, only behind the 68* scored by Kumar Sangakkara and Angelo Mathews in the 2009 T20 World Cup final.

India's total of 211/6 is notable as it marks only the second time a full-member team has scored over 200 runs in a T20I tournament final with five or more teams, following India's 255/5 against New Zealand in the T20 World Cup 2026 final.

Abhishek's remarkable performance also places him among the elite Indian batters in T20I finals, with his seven sixes ranking second for India, just behind Sanju Samson's eight sixes against New Zealand in 2026.

Tilak's four sixes put him on par with Virat Kohli, Axar Patel, and Ishan Kishan as leading six-hitters in T20I finals.

Brief scores: India 211/6 in 20 overs (Abhishek Sharma 61, Tilak Varma 51 not out; Arafat Minhas 2-25, Ahmed Daniyal 2-43) against Pakistan.
