Abhishek Sharma Sets New IPL Records with Lightning-Fast Fifty
Abhishek Sharma's Record-Breaking Performance
During the match between Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Hyderabad on Saturday (April 18), Abhishek Sharma delivered an impressive performance. After losing the toss, SRH needed a strong start, and Abhishek provided just that, forming a 75-run partnership with Travis Head during the powerplay. He achieved a remarkable half-century in just 15 balls, marking the fastest milestone of his IPL career. Abhishek scored 59 runs off 22 balls before being dismissed by Jamie Overton, with his innings featuring six fours and four sixes.
Historic Achievement for Abhishek Sharma
Abhishek's achievement is significant as he became the first player in SRH's history to score a half-century in just 15 balls. Previously, this record was jointly held with Travis Head.
Fastest IPL Fifties for SRH| Player | Balls Taken | Opponent | Year |
| Abhishek Sharma | 15 | CSK | 2026 |
| Abhishek Sharma | 16 | MI | 2024 |
| Travis Head | 16 | DC | 2024 |

Additionally, Abhishek's 15-ball fifty is tied for the second-fastest against CSK, alongside Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, who also achieved this feat earlier in the season.
Abhishek Sharma's Record-Breaking Fifties
Abhishek has now recorded six fifties in under 20 balls throughout his IPL career, the highest by any player. No other cricketer has managed to achieve this even five times. Earlier this season, he surpassed Nicholas Pooran's record of four fifties in 19 balls or less, solidifying his place in the league's history. Overall, this marks Abhishek's 10th fifty in T20 cricket, all scored in fewer than 20 balls, a feat unmatched by any other player.
| Player | Fifties In Less Than 20 Balls |
| Abhishek Sharma | 10 |
| Kieron Pollard | 6 |
| Travis Head | 5 |
| Nicholas Pooran | 4 |
| Vaibhav Sooryavanshi | 4 |
| Aneurin Donald | 4 |
This is also the fourth instance in his T20 career where Abhishek has scored a fifty in 15 balls or fewer, a record that no other player has matched more than twice. Only a handful of players, including Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and Andre Russell, have achieved this twice. Despite Abhishek's explosive start, SRH struggled to maintain their momentum, finishing with a total of 194 runs. Heinrich Klaasen also contributed with a half-century, scoring 59 runs off 39 balls, while Anshul Kamboj and Overton each took three wickets.
