Controversy Erupts Over IPL Qualifier Toss Drama
Toss Controversy in IPL Qualifier Match
Chandigarh (May 29): A significant uproar has emerged regarding the toss during the IPL's second Qualifier match. This crucial game in the 2026 season featured the Gujarat Titans facing off against the Rajasthan Royals, with a place in the finals at stake. The toss was critical, yet it was conducted twice.
Initially, the coin toss favored the Gujarat Titans. However, during the re-toss, the Rajasthan Royals emerged victorious. RR opted to bat first, but the entire double-toss situation has sparked considerable discussion.
Match Referee Calls for a Re-Toss
What prompted the re-toss? The match referee, Prakash Bhatt, was responsible for this decision.
Here’s the sequence of events: GT captain Shubman Gill was prepared with the coin, while RR captain Riyan Parag was set to make the call. Ravi Shastri was hosting the toss, and referee Prakash Bhatt was present to oversee the process.
Gill flipped the coin, and Parag made his call. However, the referee could not hear Parag's announcement, leading him to request a re-toss immediately.

The referee called for a re-toss even before the coin landed, as he had not heard Parag's decision. The coin was retrieved and returned to Gill.
Interestingly, the first toss had favored Gujarat, while the second one went to Rajasthan Royals. RR chose to bat, a decision influenced by their robust batting lineup and the pitch conditions.
Shubman Gill Voices His Frustration
Shubman Gill expressed his dissatisfaction with the situation. He mentioned that they had won the initial toss and intended to bat first.
"We wanted to bat first on this pitch and set a solid score. The pitch looked favorable for it. However, due to this unforeseen circumstance, we ended up losing the toss," Gill stated.
