Pakistan Cricket Faces Turmoil

Recent events have thrown Pakistan cricket into chaos after the team was eliminated from the T20 World Cup 2026, failing to reach the semi-finals. Shortly after this disappointing exit, alarming news surfaced involving a player allegedly misbehaving with a female hotel employee in Sri Lanka. Fast bowler Salman Mirza was identified as the individual in question. In response to these allegations, Mirza has vehemently denied the claims.

The initial report came from Telecom Asia Sport, but it was later amplified by ARY News, which identified Mirza as the accused and even displayed his image during a live broadcast. This led to a strong reaction from the cricketer, who threatened legal action against the news channel and the journalist responsible for the report, asserting that the news was fabricated. In an Instagram story, he expressed his outrage, stating, “Absurd news is circulating in the media, and I strongly condemn this kind of cheap journalism. No media house should air unverified news. The Pakistan Cricket Board has already dismissed this baseless and fake news, and I will pursue legal action against #ShahidHashmi (the journalist) from ARY News. Such filthy reporting must be prohibited, and the #GovernmentofPakistan should take action against these individuals!”

PCB's Official Statement

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has also addressed the situation, condemning the dissemination of 'unverified and misleading' information. They indicated that they may take necessary measures in response. In their statement, the PCB remarked, “The Pakistan Cricket Board has taken serious notice of the baseless and fake news aired by ARY News regarding Pakistani left-arm fast bowler Salman Mirza. PCB strongly condemns the broadcast of such unverified and misleading information and considers it malicious and irresponsible journalism. The board reserves the right to take appropriate action against those involved in spreading false news.”
