WWE Summerslam 2025 Main Event Update

Recent reports indicate a shift in the main event lineup for WWE Summerslam 2025's Night One. Although CM Punk was initially slated to headline, it seems he may no longer occupy that position. Nevertheless, Punk remains hopeful about concluding the night in a prominent role.

In a recent appearance on the Good Guy/Bad Guy Podcast, hosted by UFC icons Daniel Cormier and Chael Sonnen, Punk discussed the significance of headlining the event against World Heavyweight Champion Gunther.

“Me main eventing, I think it’s important. It’s important for the title. I think it’s important for Gunther,” Punk stated, emphasizing the value of the championship being featured in the main event. “I think the title should more often times than not always be featured in a main event. So, you know, I’m looking forward to not only main eventing SummerSlam but stealing the whole weekend.”

This year marks the first time that SummerSlam will take place over two nights. The event is set to occur at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, with John Cena and Cody Rhodes headlining Night Two in a Street Fight for the Undisputed WWE Championship.

Originally, Punk vs. Gunther was promoted as the potential main event for Night One, but that announcement has since been altered. If Punk secures a victory over Gunther, it would mark his first WWE Championship win in over a decade, following a previous reign that lasted from November 2011 to January 2013.

Currently, it appears that WWE has opted for a tag team match featuring Roman Reigns to take the main event slot for Night One, as indicated by the promotion's official website.
