Cheteshwar Pujara Reveals His All-Time Test XI for India

In a recent podcast, Cheteshwar Pujara unveiled his all-time Test XI for India, notably excluding himself in favor of his idol, Rahul Dravid. The lineup features a mix of legendary players, including Sunil Gavaskar and Virender Sehwag as openers, with MS Dhoni chosen as wicketkeeper over Rishabh Pant. Pujara's bowling attack includes Kapil Dev and Jasprit Bumrah, alongside spin legends Anil Kumble and Ravichandran Ashwin. This selection highlights Pujara's respect for the game's greats and his vision for India's cricketing legacy.

Pujara's Unique Selection for His All-Time XI

Cheteshwar Pujara, known for his steadfastness in red-ball cricket, recently shared his all-time Test XI for India, notably excluding himself from the lineup. Despite being a key player at No. 3, he chose to honor his idol and former coach, Rahul Dravid, with that position. This revelation came during an episode of the podcast 'Vikrant Unfiltered' hosted by 'Sports Tak'. For the opening slots, Pujara selected two cricketing legends who represent contrasting styles: Sunil Gavaskar, renowned for his technical prowess, and the aggressive Virender Sehwag.

He commented on his choices, stating:

"The openers are a unique pair; both are exceptional batters, with the composed Gavaskar and the aggressive Sehwag. This combination offers a different dynamic. At number three, Rahul Dravid stands out as the superior player, without a doubt."

Following Dravid, VVS Laxman was an obvious choice, celebrated for his ability to rescue India in critical situations, particularly during the iconic 281-run innings at Eden Gardens.

Dhoni Over Pant, Kumble and Ashwin Complete the Lineup

When it came to the wicketkeeper position, Pujara opted for the seasoned MS Dhoni over Rishabh Pant, explaining his rationale:

"MS Dhoni and Rishabh Pant are both excellent, but currently, I lean towards Dhoni as Rishabh is still developing his game."

Pujara expressed hope that Pant would eventually claim that spot in the future.

The bowling lineup showcases a blend of pace and spin, featuring Kapil Dev, who led India to its inaugural World Cup victory, alongside Jasprit Bumrah, a modern-day pace sensation. Pujara noted:

"They represent different eras yet contribute equally to the team's strength."

For spin options, he selected Anil Kumble, India's leading Test wicket-taker, and Ravichandran Ashwin, a record-breaking tactician. Together, they form a formidable team characterized by skill, resilience, and excellence.
