Chennaiyin FC Prepares for a Tough Match Against Odisha FC

Chennai: This Sunday, Chennaiyin FC will encounter a significant challenge at Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar as they go head-to-head with Odisha FC in the Indian Super League (ISL) 2025-26, aiming for their first victory of the season.

Last season, a standout performance from Farukh Choudhary led Chennaiyin to a remarkable win in this matchup. Over their last five encounters, the Marina Machans have achieved two victories, one loss, and two draws against the Juggernauts, with their last win at Kalinga marking a historic away victory after 569 days.

Looking ahead, head coach Clifford Miranda emphasized the importance of his team's readiness for what is expected to be a challenging away game, regardless of Odisha's winless start this season.

"Having previously worked with Odisha FC and contributing to their title win, I hold fond memories of my time there. I respect the club and their coach immensely. Their performance against Inter Kashi was commendable. This Sunday will be a tough match. If my team fails to match their determination and intensity, we could face difficulties. It’s crucial that we align with their ambition and energy," Miranda stated during the pre-match press briefing.

This match also offers Chennaiyin a chance to finally score points in ISL 2026. Despite a rocky start, Miranda reassured that both he and the players maintain confidence in the team's trajectory.

"Winning always brings a positive vibe and reinforces the hard work put in. It establishes the right rhythm and fosters positive energy within the squad. Even after losses, we believe we are progressing. As I’ve mentioned, it’s a process, and I’m convinced we are on the right track. Winning is vital as it builds confidence and prepares us for future challenges," he elaborated.

Joining Miranda at the press conference, Indian forward Farukh Choudhary shared insights on the continuous learning experience under the head coach, expressing optimism about the team's growth.

"I’m learning a lot tactically—how to position myself, when to move, and making quick decisions. Miranda’s approach is fantastic, and I’m enjoying my time here. I believe we will turn things around soon," Farukh remarked.

"We will definitely come together as a unit. It takes time due to varying mindsets and previous coaching styles. However, the players are adapting well. The atmosphere in the dressing room is positive, and everyone is supporting each other. As a team, we are progressing well. We will stick to our strategy, and hopefully, the results will start favoring us."

Chennaiyin's upcoming match against Odisha marks their third consecutive away game to kick off the ISL 2026 season. They will face their fourth away challenge against rivals Kerala Blasters in the Southern Derby on March 7.
