Chennaiyin FC and East Bengal FC Set for ISL Clash

This Saturday, the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium will witness a significant clash in the 2026-27 Indian Super League (ISL) as Chennaiyin FC takes on the reigning champions, East Bengal FC. The home team is eager to turn around their fortunes after a challenging start, having gone winless in their first month, while the visitors arrive with impressive scoring momentum.

Chennaiyin's Struggles and Tactical Changes

Chennaiyin FC has faced difficulties in converting their efforts into goals, managing only one goal in four matches. Head Coach Clifford Miranda attributes this to a lack of finishing rather than a failure to create chances. He respects East Bengal's strong lineup but insists his team will not be intimidated, stating, "Football is played on the pitch."

To enhance their attacking play, Chennaiyin has made tactical adjustments to increase the number of players in the box. Miranda noted, "Since the match against Bengaluru FC, we have tweaked our approach to get more players involved in the attack." However, they will miss Maheson Singh and Emmanuel Imanishimwe due to suspension.

East Bengal FC Aims to Sustain Scoring Streak

On the other hand, East Bengal FC arrives in Chennai with a remarkable scoring record, having netted nine goals in their first two matches, including a 4-0 victory over Churchill Brothers SC and a 5-1 win against Inter Kashi FC. Head Coach Antonio Lopez Habas remains cautious, stressing the importance of focus and preparation for the match against Chennaiyin, stating, "It will be a tough match because they have a good team and organization."

The team will be without Anwar Ali due to injury, but defender Diego Zivulic believes they have sufficient depth to manage his absence. He remarked, "Anwar is a key player, but we have quality replacements." Habas emphasized that his strategy will remain unchanged, regardless of whether they are playing at home or away. In their last encounter, East Bengal triumphed over Chennaiyin 3-1 at the same venue in April 2026.
