Ayush Mhatre's Injury Announcement

Chennai Super Kings (CSK), the five-time champions of the Indian Premier League (IPL), have suffered a significant setback with the news that their dynamic batter and U19 World Cup-winning captain, Ayush Mhatre, will miss the remainder of IPL 2026 due to a hamstring injury.

CSK officially announced, "Ayush Mhatre has been ruled out for the rest of IPL 2026 following a left hamstring injury sustained while batting against Sunrisers Hyderabad on April 18."

The statement further noted, "Ayush will need a rehabilitation period of 6 to 12 weeks. We wish him a swift recovery."

Mhatre's Contributions to CSK

This season, Mhatre has been a standout performer for CSK, accumulating 201 runs in six matches with an average of 33.50 and an impressive strike rate of 177.87, which includes two half-centuries and a top score of 73.

Since joining the team as a replacement for injured skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad last season, Mhatre has made a remarkable impact, scoring 441 runs in 13 innings at an average of 33.92 and a strike rate of 183.45, featuring three fifties.

Ongoing Injury Challenges for CSK

Currently, CSK has managed to secure only two victories out of their six matches in IPL 2026, recently losing to Sunrisers Hyderabad by 10 runs, placing them in eighth position on the points table.

Mhatre's absence creates a significant gap in the top order, especially as the Indian opening duo of Sanju Samson and skipper Gaikwad have struggled for form.

Additionally, legendary wicketkeeper MS Dhoni is still sidelined due to a calf strain.

Earlier in the season, left-arm pacer Khaleel Ahmed was also ruled out due to injury.

The five-time champions have faced numerous injury issues this season, including the absence of explosive South African batter Dewald Brevis at the tournament's start, although he has since returned.

CSK's next match is against their arch-rivals, Mumbai Indians (MI), scheduled for April 23 at Wankhede Stadium.
