Nathan Ellis Ruled Out of IPL 2026

Chennai: The Chennai Super Kings (CSK), who have clinched the IPL title five times, are facing a significant challenge just days before the commencement of the 19th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026. Their key bowler, Nathan Ellis, has been sidelined for the entire tournament due to a hamstring injury.

The franchise announced Ellis's absence through a social media update on Friday, stating, "Nathan Ellis has been ruled out of the season due to a hamstring injury. We wish him a speedy recovery!"

Ellis, who has claimed 19 wickets in 17 IPL matches, was acquired by CSK for ₹2 crore during the 2025 mega auction after spending four seasons with Punjab Kings. He was retained for the 2026 season.

The 31-year-old had been in excellent form for Australia over the past year and was anticipated to play a crucial role for CSK, especially after the team released their leading bowler Matheesha Pathirana, who is now set to play for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) this season.

With Ellis's departure, CSK's overseas fast-bowling lineup now includes Matt Henry, Jamie Overton, and Zak Foulkes, while Indian bowlers Khaleel Ahmed, Anshul Kamboj, Gurjapneet Singh, and Mukesh Choudhary are also in the squad.

The team, led by Ruturaj Gaikwad, also features India's T20 World Cup champion Shivam Dube and Aman Khan as all-rounders capable of bowling.

CSK will kick off their IPL 2026 journey on March 30 against the Rajasthan Royals in Guwahati. Following that, they will host Punjab Kings on April 3 and Delhi Capitals on April 11 at their home ground, M.A. Chidambaram Stadium, before heading to Bengaluru for a match against the defending champions, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) on April 5.

Last season, CSK struggled, finishing at the bottom of the table with only four wins out of 14 matches, making them the first team to be eliminated from playoff contention.
