Chennai Super Kings CEO Confirms Return of Overseas Players for IPL 2025 Finale
Chennai Super Kings Update on Overseas Players
The CEO of Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Kasi Viswanathan, has announced that most of the franchise's international players will be back for the concluding phase of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, which is set to resume on Saturday, May 17. The tournament had been paused for a week due to rising tensions between India and Pakistan.
As the league stage approaches its end, Viswanathan shared important news regarding the team's lineup, particularly concerning their overseas players.
He stated that all players will be available for the remainder of the season, with the exception of Sam Curran and Jamie Overton. CSK is eager to have their international players back as they aim to finish the season strongly.
Jamie Overton's Absence Due to National Duty
Jamie Overton's non-participation is due to his selection for England's home white-ball series against the West Indies, which begins on May 29. He has been included in both the ODI and T20I squads, preventing him from playing in CSK's final two league matches.
Interestingly, the absence of Sam Curran has raised questions. Although he was not selected for the West Indies series, Curran has chosen not to return to the Chennai franchise.
CSK has not provided details regarding his decision, leaving it uncertain whether it stems from personal issues or security concerns.
Curran participated in CSK's initial matches this season, accumulating 114 runs across five games with a strike rate of 135.71. He has also taken one wicket during the tournament. While he has performed well as a batsman, his bowling has raised some concerns for CSK.
Currently, CSK's roster includes Dewald Brevis, Nathan Ellis, Devon Conway, Rachin Ravindra, Noor Ahmad, and Matheesha Pathirana, all of whom are expected to join the team shortly.
As it stands, CSK has secured three victories but has lost nine out of their twelve matches, placing them at the bottom of the points table.
