Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], June 21: The Chennai Bulls marked a significant return to form in Season 1 of the Rugby Premier League, overcoming a 17-point deficit to secure a 31-24 victory against the Bengaluru Bravehearts at the Shahaji Raje Bhosale Sports Complex on Saturday evening.


The Bulls kicked off the scoring with a swift try from Joseva Talacolo, followed by a successful conversion from Joaquin Pellandini. After a strong start to the season, the Bulls were eager to regain their winning momentum, but the Bravehearts, who had previously bested them, were ready for a tough contest.


Philip Wokorach and Tone Shiu each contributed two tries, while Akuila Rokolisoa successfully converted his attempts, allowing the Bravehearts to surge ahead and lead 24-7 at halftime.


However, the game took a dramatic turn in the opening minutes of the second half, as Terry Kennedy and Joseva Talacolo each scored for the Bulls, with Filipe Sauturaga converting the kicks. With just a quarter of the match remaining, the Bulls found themselves in the lead by two points.


In the closing moments, Vaafauese Maliko added another try, solidifying the Bulls' comeback and ensuring they left with all the points.


Earlier in the tournament, the Chennai Bulls faced off against the Kalinga Black Tigers in a thrilling match that ended in a 26-26 draw. The Tigers started strong with Perry Baker scoring the first try, quickly followed by a conversion from Maurice Longbottom. The Bulls responded with a try from Joaquin Pellandini, leveling the score.


The Tigers continued to dominate before halftime, with Kyle Tremblay and James Thiel each scoring tries, and Longbottom converting another kick. Just before the break, Aryan Dixit scored for the Bulls, leaving the teams separated by seven points. The Bulls equalized early in the second half with a try and conversion from Filipe Sauturaga.


In the final quarter, the Kalinga Black Tigers took the lead again with a try from Ajay Deswal, and Longbottom successfully converted. Just when it seemed the Tigers were on track for their first win, Vaafauese Maliko scored a try, and Joaquin Pellandini converted from the wing, ensuring the Bulls would not suffer a defeat.
