Controversy Surrounds WWE SmackDown Promo

The controversial promo featuring Charlotte Flair and Tiffany Stratton from WWE SmackDown continues to spark discussions online, even a week after it aired. Stratton recently defended her actions during a podcast, while Flair also shared her thoughts, particularly addressing the audience in Chicago.

On Thursday night, Charlotte Flair took to social media to express her feelings about the segment that aired on April 4 from the All-State Arena in Chicago. Both wrestlers reportedly made unscripted remarks that touched on their personal lives, with Flair's statement directed at the Chicago fans.

“After being blindsided by my personal trauma on live television, my character said something on-air that was not true, and I’d like to take this opportunity to clear the air. I should have NEVER called the Chicago fans smart. I sincerely apologize,” Flair stated on her X/Twitter account.

Tensions Rise Between Stratton and Flair

The personal trauma Flair referred to was linked to Stratton's comments about Flair's past, including a jab about her drinking habits and her marriage failures. Stratton's remarks about Flair's personal life were seen as crossing a line by some fans.

Looking Ahead to WrestleMania 41

Reports from backstage indicated that the segment spiraled out of control, with some attributing blame to Flair for provoking Stratton, while others felt Stratton's comments about Flair's marriage were inappropriate.

Fortunately, Fightful Select reports that WWE has decided to continue with this storyline despite the unscripted nature of the segment. Stratton expressed her intentions during an appearance on the Babyfaces podcast, emphasizing her desire to deliver an exceptional match against Flair at WrestleMania.

“Being so new into this business and being so new as champion, I don’t think she really expected me to stand up to her and I don’t think she expected me to, almost clap back. All I have to say is, it’s live TV, stakes are high. We’re going into WrestleMania.”
