Struggles for Indian-Origin Golfers

Doral [US], May 3: Akshay Bhatia faced a setback on the leaderboard after a double bogey on his last hole, concluding the second round of the Cadillac Championship in a tie for 26th place. In contrast, Sudarshan Yellamaraju shot a 66 but lost crucial strokes late in the game, finishing tied for 16th, despite being in contention for a top-five spot earlier.

Sahith Theegala also had a challenging round, recording a double bogey on the eighth hole along with bogeys on the third, ninth, and 18th. His score of 76 placed him tied for 48th, with only one birdie amidst several challenges. The final stretch, especially the 18th hole, proved difficult for many competitors.

Bhatia's round was a mix of highs and lows, featuring six birdies, four bogeys, and a double bogey, resulting in an even-par 72. Yellamaraju started strong, reaching 9-under through 16 holes but faltered with a three-shot drop over the last two holes, including a double bogey on the 17th, finishing the day at 4-under overall.

Cameron Young Extends Lead at Doral

Cameron Young continued to dominate, scoring a 5-under 67 to reach a total of 13-under, leading by five shots as the tournament heads into the weekend at the USD 20 million Signature Event at Trump National Doral. His only mistake was a bogey on the par-4 14th hole.

World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler, who played alongside Young, also managed a bogey-free 67 but remained seven shots behind in a tie for sixth place. Nick Taylor (70), Alex Smalley (71), and Jordan Spieth (71) are tied for second, while Gary Woodland (69) is in fifth place at 7-under. A group including Alex Fitzpatrick follows closely at 6-under.

Spieth highlighted the demanding 18th hole by sinking a birdie, marking just the sixth birdie recorded there in the first two rounds on the challenging Blue Monster course.
