Historic Victory for Casper Ruud at Madrid Open

In a remarkable achievement, Casper Ruud has etched his name in tennis history by becoming the first player from Norway to secure a Masters 1000 title. He triumphed over Jack Draper with a score of 7-5, 3-6, 6-4 in the final of the Madrid Open held on Sunday. Ruud, who previously held the second rank in the world, made a stunning comeback from a 5-3 deficit in the opening set and clinched the match by taking advantage of a crucial break at 2-2 in the final set.

The 26-year-old celebrated his victory by raising both arms in triumph after winning on his first match point on the clay courts of Caja Magica.

“It’s been a long time coming,” Ruud expressed. “Achieving this was one of my major childhood dreams, and it feels incredible to finally accomplish it. The match was fantastic, and I knew Jack had been performing exceptionally well throughout the year, especially in this tournament. I realized that if I didn’t bring my best game, I would be outplayed.”

Following this victory, Ruud is set to return to the top 10, climbing to the No. 7 position in the ATP rankings on Monday.

According to the ATP, Ruud is the first Norwegian to win a Masters 1000 title since the series began in 1990.
