Carlos Alcaraz Withdraws from Key Tournaments Due to Wrist Injury
Alcaraz's Early Exit from Clay-Court Season
New Delhi [India] - Carlos Alcaraz announced on Friday that he will not participate in the Internazionali BNL d’Italia and Roland Garros due to a wrist injury that has cut his 2026 clay-court season short.
The World No. 2 was preparing to defend his titles at both prestigious events, including his remarkable victory at the French Open where he saved three championship points against Jannik Sinner. However, after undergoing medical evaluations, he decided to withdraw.
In a post on X, Alcaraz stated, “Following the test results today, we believe it’s best to be cautious and skip Rome and Roland Garros while we monitor my recovery. This is a challenging time for me, but I am confident we will emerge stronger.”
After losing to Jannik Sinner in the Monte-Carlo final, Alcaraz slipped to the second position in the rankings, now trailing Sinner by 390 points. He faces a tough road ahead, needing to defend 1,000 points in Rome and an additional 2,000 at Roland Garros.
The seven-time Grand Slam champion had already received treatment for his right wrist and forearm during his first-round match at the Barcelona Open on April 14.
Just days later, at the Laureus World Sports Awards 2026, where he was honored as Sportsman of the Year, Alcaraz was spotted wearing a wrist brace, highlighting ongoing concerns regarding his injury, as reported by Olympics.com.
This will mark only the second Grand Slam that Alcaraz has missed, having previously withdrawn from the 2023 Australian Open due to a right hamstring injury.
