Busarakul and Thais Claim U18 Boys Doubles Title at APP Asia Penang Open

At the APP Asia Penang Open, Bhannawitch Busarakul and Rex Thais emerged victorious in the Boys Doubles U18 category, defeating the Indian duo of Veer Shah and Nirvair Bhan in a decisive match, with scores of 11-5 and 11-6 on Saturday, July 25. The champions dominated Group A, finishing with a perfect 3-0 record, winning all their matches without losing a single game, including a remarkable 11-0 victory against Joel Tham Yu En and Khoo Chee Yu. Similarly, Shah and Bhan also topped Group B with a flawless 3-0 record.
In the knockout stages, Busarakul and Thais secured their place in the finals with a 15-4 win over Norman Wong Qun Yik and Lok Jien Sen in the quarterfinals, followed by a 15-10 victory against Minami Haruki and Yuma Miyajima in the semifinals. Meanwhile, Shah and Bhan advanced after a 15-1 quarterfinal win over Haqqi and Aahan Hirani, and a 15-9 semifinal win against Ryan Fung and Ziq Ok, setting the stage for the final showdown.
The third-place match concluded with Ryan Fung and Ziq Ok defeating Minami Haruki and Yuma Miyajima with scores of 11-1 and 11-4. Veer Shah had an impressive tournament, clinching the Boys Singles U18 and Boys Doubles U15 titles, while also securing third place in Boys Singles U15. Nirvair Bhan contributed by winning the Boys Singles U15 title as well.
Rex Thais showcased his skills in other categories too, winning the Mixed Doubles 19+ (DUPR 4.999 and below) title and finishing as the runner-up in Men's Singles 19+ (DUPR 4.999 and below). The finals took place at Pickle By The Sea in Penang, as part of the APP Asia Tour, which ran from July 22 to 26.
