Brazil Advances with a Strong Performance

In a decisive match held at Miami Stadium on June 24, Brazil clinched their spot in the knockout phase of the FIFA World Cup 2026 by defeating Scotland 3-0. Vinicius Junior was the standout player, netting two goals in the first half, while Matheus Cunha added a third after halftime, ensuring Brazil topped Group C under the guidance of coach Carlo Ancelotti.

The match began with Brazil taking an early lead in the seventh minute. Rayan intercepted a poor pass from Scott McKenna, setting up Vinicius, who skillfully rounded the Scottish goalkeeper Angus Gunn and calmly finished into the net.

With this goal, Vinicius made history by becoming the first Brazilian in 24 years to score in each of his nation's first three World Cup matches, a record previously held by legends Ronaldo Nazario and Rivaldo in 2002, as noted by ESPN FC. He is now one of only five Brazilian players to achieve this milestone, joining the ranks of Jairzinho, Romario, Ronaldo, and Rivaldo.

Brazil maintained their dominance throughout the match, nearly doubling their lead midway through the first half, but a second goal from Vinicius was disallowed after a VAR check.

Scotland struggled to penetrate Brazil's solid defense and fell further behind in stoppage time of the first half. Bruno Guimaraes sent a precise cross into the box, allowing Vinicius to head in his second goal unmarked.

After the break, Scotland attempted to mount a comeback, but Brazil's control was evident. In the 60th minute, Guimaraes again played a crucial role, driving into the penalty area and assisting Matheus Cunha, who scored Brazil's third goal.

Despite some efforts from Scotland, including a few saves from Brazilian goalkeeper Alisson Becker, they could not find the net.

Brazil also saw the return of Neymar, who made his first appearance of the tournament after recovering from injury, coming off the bench in the final moments as Brazil secured a comfortable victory.

With this win, Brazil finished at the top of Group C with seven points, advancing to the Round of 32 alongside Morocco, who triumphed over Haiti 4-2. Scotland now awaits to see if their three points will be sufficient to qualify as one of the best third-placed teams.
