Chola Chiefs Secure Victory in APL

New Delhi, October 3: In a stellar display, Brady Ellison, the world’s top-ranked men’s recurve archer from the USA, led the Chola Chiefs to a 6-2 victory against the Prithviraaj Yodhas during the second day of the Archery Premier League (APL) at the Yamuna Sports Complex in Delhi. Indian star Deepika Kumari had an inconsistent performance in the match.

Ellison's exceptional skills were pivotal, but the match also highlighted challenges faced by the Yodhas, particularly with Gatha Khadake, who was timed out twice in the first and fourth sets, preventing her from completing her final shot. Each archer is allotted 15 seconds to shoot their four arrows.

While Ellison excelled for the Chiefs, the Yodhas' captain and compound archer Abhishek Verma performed well but lacked consistent backing from teammates Gatha and Matias Grande, although Andrea Becera had a solid outing.

In a strategic move, Ellison and Kumari shot last for the Chiefs, with Rishabh Yadav providing crucial support. Meeri-Marita Paas rounded out the Chiefs' lineup.

The Chiefs kicked off strong, winning the first set 72-69, but the Yodhas responded by taking the second set 74-73, leveling the score at 2-2. However, the Chiefs regained control, winning the next two sets 77-73 and 78-68, ultimately securing their second consecutive win in the league.

In another match, the Chero Archers defeated the Kakatiya Knights 5-1, winning in three sets with scores of 74-74, 78-73, and 71-67.

The final match of the day saw the Rajputana Royals triumph over the Mighty Marathas with a score of 6-2, with set scores of 77-75, 77-73, 74-77, and 79-76. After two days of competition, both the Royals and the Chiefs have accumulated four points each, but the Royals lead the standings based on their sets won/lost ratio, having won 12 and lost 2 sets, compared to the Chiefs' 11 wins and 3 losses.

Both the Marathas and Chero Archers have two points each, while the Yodhas and Knights sit at the bottom of the table, yet to score any points after losing both their matches.
