Boxing Federation of India Launches New Assessment Framework for Elite Coaching Camp
Introduction to the Assessment Framework
The Boxing Federation of India (BFI) has officially established a new assessment framework for the Elite National Coaching Camp. This initiative is crucial for determining national rankings and selecting athletes for forthcoming international competitions.
Impact on National Representation
The results from these assessments will play a vital role in deciding India's representatives for significant global events such as the Commonwealth Games, Asian Games, and the World Boxing Cup 2. The rankings achieved will remain valid until the next evaluation cycle, as stated in an official release.
Updated Assessment Schedule and Format
In April, BFI announced the assessment schedule, which was later updated on May 1 to adjust certain timelines. This change was made to provide athletes with sufficient preparation time due to delays in camp approval.
The assessment will occur in two phases: Strength & Conditioning tests are set for May 6 and 7, followed by knockout-format sparring bouts from May 11 to 15, aimed at determining final rankings across various weight categories.
Detailed Evaluation Criteria
The evaluation process will total 200 marks, integrating both technical and non-technical aspects. Non-technical factors such as attendance, weight management, health status, international potential, and strength & conditioning will contribute to the overall score, alongside technical evaluations by a panel of experts.
Recent performances, including results from the COAS Cup 2026, will also be considered, ensuring a merit-based approach that rewards consistent performance and competitive excellence.
Commitment to Transparency and Performance
Col Arun Malik, Executive Director of BFI, emphasized that the assessment framework is founded on transparency, objectivity, and performance. The schedule was shared in advance as part of a structured approach, and recent adjustments were made to ensure athletes have ample preparation time following the camp's sanction delay. This system aims to maintain fairness and consistency, aligning with international high-performance standards as preparations for major global competitions continue.
High-Performance Standards and Protocols
Only the top-performing boxers will remain in the National Coaching Camp—specifically, the top four in Olympic weight categories and the top two in non-Olympic divisions. This approach aims to foster a high-performance environment within the national framework.
Moreover, BFI has implemented strict protocols regarding weight management, attendance, and discipline, with clearly defined scoring criteria and penalties to ensure compliance with elite training standards and accountability among all participants.
