Bihar's Sports Minister Concludes Visit to Odisha: A Step Towards Enhanced Sports Collaboration
Strengthening Sports Ties Between Bihar and Odisha
Bhubaneswar: The official four-day visit of Shreyasi Singh, the Sports and Industry Minister from Bihar, wrapped up today at Kalinga Stadium. On her last day, she engaged in a significant meeting with Suryabanshi Suraj, Odisha’s Minister for Sports and Youth Services.
The discussions centered around enhancing collaboration between the two states in various sports initiatives, including athlete exchange programs, the integration of sports science, and identifying young talent from grassroots levels.
Bhupendra Singh Poonia, the Commissioner-cum-Secretary of the Odisha Sports and Youth Services Department, contributed valuable insights regarding the department's strategic plans.
Singh commended Odisha's exceptional sports infrastructure and High-Performance Centres, noting that Bihar is also making strides in developing its own sports facilities.
To maximize the use and management of sports venues, she suggested organizing friendly matches and exchange programs for athletes from both states.
Additionally, Singh pointed out that Bihar is in the process of establishing infrastructure for four sports—volleyball, basketball, cricket practice pitches, and football—across every Gram Panchayat.
Suraj mentioned that initiatives like the ‘CM Trophy’ are instrumental in nurturing emerging sporting talent from the grassroots.
Poonia elaborated on Odisha's operational model, and both ministers concurred that effective coordination among schools, sports institutions, and government bodies is crucial for fostering a strong sports ecosystem for rural athletes.
