Bhuvneshwar Kumar Shines as RCB Triumphs in Nail-Biting Finish Against MI
Bhuvneshwar's Match-Winning Performance
Bhuvneshwar Kumar earned the 'Player of the Match' title for his outstanding display against the Mumbai Indians (MI). He took four crucial wickets and later struck a six in a high-pressure moment, leading the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) to a thrilling last-ball victory. With just nine runs required from the final three deliveries, Bhuvi launched a six over point off Raj Angad Bawa, securing a two-wicket win and propelling RCB to the top of the points table with their seventh victory of the season.
Bhuvi Reflects on His Performance
Upon receiving his Player of the Match award, Bhuvneshwar expressed that the six he hit would be a memorable highlight. "That six for sure, because I've bowled many times. I've taken a few wickets before as well. But yeah, six is the thing I've enjoyed the most," he remarked. The 36-year-old bowler currently leads the wicket-taking charts with 21 wickets and holds the Purple Cap, marking the fourth occasion he has surpassed 20 wickets in an IPL season. In this match, he dismissed Rohit Sharma, Ryan Rickelton, Suryakumar Yadav, and Tilak Varma, conceding only 23 runs in his four overs.
Discipline Over Motivation
Discussing his drive, Bhuvneshwar stated, "Honestly, motivation is a very overrated word for me. You read some quote, you see some video, and you get motivated for a few minutes and that fades away very quickly. But the thing which keeps me going is the discipline, and with that, yes, we have physios and trainers with the team, but I've got a physio and trainer back at home. They work hard with me as well. They help me to keep in shape. So I think credit goes to them as well."
Team Effort Acknowledged by Skipper
Krunal Pandya made a significant contribution with a score of 73 runs off 46 balls, including five sixes and four fours. RCB captain Rajat Patidar praised Pandya's performance, stating, "I think it's normal now, but it was a very tight match. Overall, I think it was a great game, especially KP (Krunal Pandya). I think he's the man who's done it for the team."
On Bhuvneshwar's performance, Patidar added, "I think the way he (Bhuvneshwar) controlled the ball is super. It has been difficult on a wicket that was two-paced and had variable bounce. I think it's very difficult to play him."
RCB Focuses on Performance, Not Standings
With this win, RCB ascends to the top of the standings with seven victories from 11 matches, while the Mumbai Indians linger in ninth place with only three wins. Reflecting on their position in the points table, the captain remarked, "Right now we are not bothered about the table because our mantra is to play on our strengths and play good cricket rather than looking at the table."
