Bengaluru Chosen for Davis Cup World Group Stage

Bengaluru, Karnataka, has been officially selected to host the upcoming Davis Cup World Group stage match featuring India against the Netherlands on February 7-8.

The Karnataka State Lawn Tennis Association (KSLTA) announced this exciting news in a press release, expressing their enthusiasm alongside the All India Tennis Association (AITA) for bringing this prestigious event to the city.

This event marks the return of the Davis Cup to India, showcasing Bengaluru's status as a premier tennis hub in the country. The KSLTA has played a crucial role in establishing the city as a leading center for tennis.

Bengaluru boasts a rich history of hosting high-profile tennis events and has a dedicated fan base that passionately supports the sport. This international match further enhances the city's reputation as a top destination for tennis in India. The recent successful hosting of the Billie Jean King Cup Play-offs in Bengaluru, the first of its kind in India, demonstrated the city's capability to manage international tournaments with excellent infrastructure and enthusiastic support.

The city has a longstanding legacy with the Davis Cup, having hosted numerous ties over the years, including matches against Australia in 1970, Sweden in 1985, Indonesia in 2013, Serbia in 2014, and Uzbekistan in 2017. These significant encounters underline Bengaluru's deep-rooted connection with elite international tennis.

India, currently ranked 33rd in the Davis Cup standings, has reached the finals three times (1966, 1974, and 1987). The team secured its spot in the 2026 qualifiers with a notable 3-1 victory over Switzerland in September 2025, marking its first win against a European team since 1993. Led by players Sumit Nagal and Dhakshineswar Suresh, this victory represents India's best performance since the competition format was revised in 2019.

In the upcoming match, India will face a formidable opponent in the Netherlands, which is currently ranked 4th in the Davis Cup and was the runner-up in the 2024 tournament. As last year's finalists, the Netherlands has advanced directly to the second round of the 2026 Qualifiers, bypassing the initial phase as per tournament rules.

KSLTA expressed pride in hosting another significant global tennis event, reaffirming their dedication to promoting the sport at all levels. Shri. Priyank M Kharge, Minister of IT BT, RDPR, Government of Karnataka, and Sr. VP of KSLTA, remarked, “It is a privilege for Bengaluru to be selected once again as the venue for the Davis Cup tie against the Netherlands. We are optimistic about receiving robust support from the Government of Karnataka, corporate sponsors, and the local community. The Davis Cup embodies nationalism and is a special occasion for all of us. We hope this event inspires young athletes and unites the nations and tennis community. Bengaluru is honored to host this prestigious competition.”

Details regarding match dates, venue, and ticketing will be announced soon.

KSLTA eagerly anticipates welcoming Team India, Team Netherlands, the global tennis community, and fans nationwide to Bengaluru for what promises to be an exhilarating Davis Cup weekend. The Davis Cup, often referred to as the World Cup of Tennis, follows a home-and-away format, with teams competing for a chance to reach the Final 8 in Italy next year. With modern facilities, experienced organizers, and a passionate fan base, Bengaluru is prepared to host yet another major international tennis event.
