Bengaluru Prepares for IPL Matches: Enhanced Security and Tribute to Victims
Security Measures for Upcoming IPL Matches
Bengaluru: On Tuesday, Police Commissioner Seemath Kumar Singh announced comprehensive security and traffic plans for the cricket matches at Chinnaswamy Stadium, starting March 28 and continuing with another match on April 5.
During a press briefing, the Commissioner emphasized that these arrangements align with the recommendations from the safety committee to ensure both security and the smooth operation of the events.
He highlighted the importance of public cooperation, stating that only individuals with valid digital tickets will be permitted entry into the stadium. Those without tickets will not be allowed to gather in the vicinity.
“Everyone must take responsibility. Spectators should arrive punctually, and only ticket holders will gain access,” he remarked.
Parking facilities, including paid options, have been arranged for attendees purchasing match tickets. The public is encouraged to utilize Metro services, which now offer integrated ticketing.
Fans can reach the stadium via the M.G. Road and Cubbon Park Metro stations, both conveniently located nearby. Authorities also recommend using BMTC buses to alleviate traffic congestion.
The Commissioner reiterated that no one without a ticket will be allowed to congregate near the stadium to avoid traffic disruptions and ensure a hassle-free experience for genuine spectators.
He assured that all necessary measures have been implemented to guarantee safety and security, allowing fans to enjoy the matches without worry. Mock drills and evacuation exercises have been conducted as part of the preparations, with ambulances and medical teams stationed around the venue.
The police have urged the public to cooperate with officials to ensure a smooth and secure experience during the matches.
In a tragic incident on June 4, 2025, a stampede occurred outside the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium during RCB’s victory celebrations, resulting in the loss of 11 lives and injuries to over 50 individuals due to severe overcrowding, with around 300,000 attendees present.
As the IPL season approaches, the first match is set for March 28 at Chinnaswamy Stadium.
In light of this, RCB management official Rajesh Menon held a press conference, announcing that 11 seats will be reserved in memory of the victims. Players will wear black armbands as a sign of respect, and 11 seats will remain vacant during each match as a tribute.
Menon noted that several precautionary changes have been implemented this season to enhance safety.
RCB CEO Rajesh Menon stated that the management has taken steps to support the families of the 11 deceased and will continue discussions on further assistance.
When asked about the lack of an earlier official press conference regarding the incident, Menon explained that the franchise could not comment due to ongoing investigations involving four agencies and a case registered immediately after the event.
As part of the tribute, Menon announced that players will wear jersey number 11 during all practice sessions in honor of the victims, with the RCB management officially recognizing this gesture as a sign of condolence.
