Bengaluru Blasters Gear Up for IPBL Season 2 with Youthful Strategy
Bengaluru Blasters' Bold Approach
In December 2025, the inaugural Indian Pickleball League (IPBL) kicked off in New Delhi, where the Bengaluru Blasters made a daring choice. Unlike other teams that opted for seasoned players, the Blasters decided to invest in young talent. As one of the league's founding franchises, they surprised many by defeating the eventual champions, Mumbai Smashers, with a score of 4-2 during the round-robin phase. With the second season on the horizon, the Blasters are proactively working to assemble a competitive team capable of clinching the championship. This year, they plan to leverage data and analytics to refine their squad-building strategy. "We aim to enter the tournament well-prepared, utilizing data insights rather than going in without a solid plan. Many players have shown significant improvement since last season, allowing us to explore a wider range of both domestic and international talent," stated Vasanth Kalyan, the franchise's CEO.
Strategic Talent Scouting
As the Blasters aim to enhance their roster for a stronger performance, they have a clear vision for the upcoming season. "We are on the lookout for talent that surpasses last year's pool. This season promises to be highly competitive, and we expect a larger player pool," Vasanth added. He emphasized that the core team will remain unchanged, highlighting the franchise's commitment to players who have shown resilience under pressure. Additionally, he noted that they are focused on creating a more formidable squad than last year's. "The player auction is imminent, and there is heightened interest among players. We want to ensure our team mix is among the best, regardless of our previous standings," he remarked.
Emerging Talent and Future Prospects
Since the league's inception, Indian pickleball has seen remarkable growth, with young players making their mark internationally, particularly in American, African, and Asian circuits. The Blasters are actively scouting these talents, traveling extensively to observe their performances. "Arunava Majumdar and Dev Shah have emerged as standout players, alongside Anshi Seth and Naga Moksha Yerram. There are also several promising talents, including Moksha, who were not part of the IPBL last season," Vasanth noted. At the Kerala Open in April, the Blasters recognized Arunava as the tournament's Most Valuable Player, offering him a sponsorship package for the Pickleball World Cup, contingent on his qualification for the prestigious event in Da Nang, Vietnam.
Building a Strong Core
Arjun Singh, the youngest player in last year's IPBL at just 15, showcased exceptional maturity and played a crucial role in the Blasters' victory over the Mumbai Smashers. He has since secured three gold medals at the US Open Pickleball Championships and is set to lead India as captain of the Under-18 team at the upcoming Pickleball World Cup. The franchise has also seen promising performances from coach Dhiren Patel in age-category events, while standout player Rakshikha Ravi earned two gold medals at the Tanzania Open. With Arjun defeating top competitors at the BIDV Cup in Vietnam, the Blasters' management feels validated in their investment in youth. "This is a remarkable achievement. At Bengaluru Blasters, we have committed to nurturing talents like Arjun Singh. Although we didn't win the title last season, we built a team with long-term potential," said Visakh VS, the team's Chief Strategy Officer.
Commitment to Youth Development
While the effectiveness of their strategy remains to be seen, the Blasters are unwavering in their belief that youth is key to sustained success. "We will continue to invest in young talent because we see immense potential. While our aggressive playstyle worked in many matches, we may consider adding experienced players to enhance team cohesion and strategy. Overall, we are satisfied with our current roster and aim to retain as many players as possible," Vasanth concluded. As they prepare for the second season, the Blasters are focused on assembling their squad early, emphasizing team bonding and on-court chemistry.
