Ben Stokes Withdraws from Final Test Against India, England Announces Squad Changes
Ben Stokes Out of the Final Test
England's Test captain Ben Stokes will not participate in the fifth and final Test match against India, set to commence on July 31 at The Oval. The England team has revealed its playing XI for this match, featuring four significant changes.
In Stokes' absence, Ollie Pope has been appointed as the new captain. Additionally, Liam Dawson, Jofra Archer, and Brydon Carse have also been excluded from the final Test squad. Following his withdrawal, Stokes expressed his disappointment during a press conference.
Currently, England leads the five-match Test series against India 2-1, and they are eager to secure the trophy with a victory at The Oval. Meanwhile, the Indian team, under the leadership of Shubman Gill, aims to level the series by winning this crucial match.
During the press conference, Stokes conveyed his frustration, stating, "I am disappointed; I have sustained a significant muscle injury, and I can't even name the specific muscles. I came here this morning hoping to contribute to the team by batting. However, after discussions with the medical team, it was determined that the risk was too high. I wouldn't want anyone else to play in my condition."
