Ben Foakes Shines in Day One of County Championship Clash Between Yorkshire and Surrey

The first day of the 28th County Championship Division One match between Yorkshire and Surrey was marked by Ben Foakes' remarkable wicket-keeping, including a stunning catch to dismiss Jonathan Tattersall. Yorkshire set a total of 255 runs, with Jonny Bairstow leading the score. Surrey ended the day at 46 without loss, aiming to take the lead in the first innings. Exciting Day One at the County Championship

The opening day of the 28th County Championship Division One match between Yorkshire and Surrey was packed with thrilling moments, particularly highlighted by Ben Foakes' exceptional wicket-keeping skills. His stunning catch to dismiss Jonathan Tattersall stood out at the Kennington Oval in London.



After winning the toss, Surrey's captain Rory Burns opted to bat first. Yorkshire, batting under pressure, managed to score 255 runs in their first innings. Jonny Bairstow played a crucial role, scoring 89 runs off 114 balls, while opener Adam Lyth contributed a solid 55 runs. In the latter stages of the innings, Jordan Thompson added a quick 30 runs from 40 balls, including five boundaries, helping Yorkshire surpass the 250-run mark.



Surrey's bowling attack was effective, with Tom Lawes and Jordan Clark each claiming three wickets. Dan Lawrence took two wickets, while Nathan Smith and Matthew Fisher each added one to their tally.


Ben Foakes' Spectacular Performance

While Yorkshire's batting had its highlights, the standout performance came from Ben Foakes behind the stumps. He successfully took four catches, dismissing James Wharton, Adam Lyth, Matthew Revis, and notably, Jonathan Tattersall.



The most remarkable catch occurred in the 33rd over when Jordan Clark bowled a short ball to Tattersall. Attempting to pull, Tattersall only managed a top edge, sending the ball high above the stumps. Foakes, diving fully to his left, executed a stunning one-handed catch. Tattersall, struggling at the crease, was dismissed for just 8 runs off 38 balls, earning a loud cheer from the crowd at The Oval.

Surrey's Strong Start

In reply to Yorkshire's total of 255, Surrey ended Day 1 at a solid 46 runs without loss after 13 overs. Rory Burns remained unbeaten on 27, while Dom Sibley was not out on 10. Surrey trails by 209 runs and aims to take the lead in the first innings on Day 2.



With a strong batting foundation and Foakes excelling behind the wickets, Surrey appears well-positioned as they prepare for the second day of play.
