Belinda Bencic Prepares for French Open 2026 with Family Support
Belinda Bencic's Preparations for the French Open
Swiss tennis player Belinda Bencic, currently ranked World No. 12, has commenced her training for the French Open 2026, which kicks off on May 24. As part of her preparation, she participated in two clay court tournaments: the Madrid Open and the Italian Open.
This year marks Bencic's return to the French Open after a three-year hiatus due to maternity leave and her subsequent return to competitive tennis. Her last appearance at this Grand Slam was in 2023, where she faced a tough first-round defeat against Elina Avanesyan, a lucky loser, in a challenging three-set match.
The 2021 Tokyo Olympics Gold medalist is having a remarkable comeback season, having been recognized as the WTA Comeback Player of the Year in 2025. Although she has not secured any singles titles this season, she did achieve success in mixed doubles, winning the title at the 2026 Indian Wells Open alongside Flavio Cobolli.
A Special Practice Session with Her Daughter
As Bencic gears up for her quest for a Grand Slam title at the French Open, she received a delightful boost from her biggest fan—her two-year-old daughter, Bella, born in April 2024.
In a heartwarming video shared by Roland Garros on Instagram, Bella was seen joyfully participating in her mother's practice session, holding a tiny racquet and mimicking Bencic's movements on the court.
The clip showcased Bencic playfully tossing balls to Bella, who enthusiastically swung her racquet, bringing joy to the Olympic champion. Bella even took on the role of 'assistant coach,' diligently helping to gather tennis balls scattered around the court.
Belinda Bencic's Family Life
In April 2024, Belinda Bencic married her long-time partner and fitness coach, Martin Hromkovic, in a private civil ceremony, shortly before welcoming their daughter. Hromkovic, a former professional footballer, played for clubs such as FK Inter Bratislava and OFC Russell Gabcíkovo.
After concluding a 17-year career in professional football, Hromkovic transitioned to a strength and conditioning coach, officially joining Bencic's team in late 2018.
Looking Ahead: Bencic's Goals at the French Open
Bencic is set to begin her journey for her first Grand Slam title as the No. 11 seed, facing a qualifier in her opening match. Despite her mixed results at Grand Slam events, where she has reached the semifinals only twice (2019 US Open and 2023 Wimbledon), she approaches Roland Garros with renewed confidence.
Her recent performances at the Madrid Open and Italian Open, which included both impressive victories and challenging matches, have her focused on achieving peak performance for the clay-court Grand Slam. Should she advance, Bencic may encounter top-seeded players like Aryna Sabalenka and Iga Swiatek.
Entering the French Open, Bencic is considered one of the standout players in the women's draw, combining her extensive experience with a fresh, liberated mindset. With a solid Grand Slam record of 67 wins in 104 matches, translating her comeback success into a clay-court Grand Slam title remains to be seen.
