Belgium Advances with Convincing Win

In a thrilling match at Seattle Stadium, Belgium triumphed over the United States with a decisive 4-1 scoreline, securing their spot in the quarterfinals of the FIFA World Cup 2026. The team's success was bolstered by a standout performance from Charles De Ketelaere, who scored twice, and a late addition from Romelu Lukaku.

FIFA reported that this marked Lukaku's third consecutive goal in World Cup matches, a personal milestone. De Ketelaere's impressive display earned him the Player of the Match title.

The scoring began with De Ketelaere's close-range finish after a chaotic moment in the USA defense, following a dangerous cross from Leandro Trossard. The USA equalized in the 31st minute with a deflected free-kick from Malik Tillman that caught goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois off guard.

However, Belgium quickly regained the lead just two minutes later, with De Ketelaere heading in another Trossard cross. They extended their lead after a mistake by USA goalkeeper Matt Freese, allowing De Ketelaere to set up Hans Vanaken for a long-range goal.

Despite late efforts from the USA, including attempts from substitute Sebastian Berhalter and Folarin Balogun, Courtois stood firm with crucial saves. Lukaku capped off the victory with a powerful solo effort in stoppage time.

Belgium is set to face Spain in the quarterfinals on July 10, following Spain's victory over Portugal.
