BCCI Clarifies on Test Team Coaching Rumors

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has addressed ongoing discussions regarding the Indian Test team. Secretary Devjeet Saikia has categorically rejected reports suggesting that VVS Laxman is being considered for the position of the next Test coach. He labeled these claims as completely unfounded and baseless.

Recent reports in the media indicated that the BCCI was contemplating changes in its leadership following the latest Test results. However, Saikia firmly stated that the board has not taken any steps regarding the coaching structure of the Test team, asserting that such news is merely speculation.

This speculation arose during a challenging period for the Indian team, which has faced significant setbacks at home. Following a historic 0-3 defeat against New Zealand, India also suffered a 2-0 loss in a home series against South Africa. This marked a troubling phase, as India lost a Test series at home for the first time in 12 years, complicating their path to the final of the World Test Championship 2025.

In contrast, the team's performance in limited-overs cricket has been markedly better. Under Gautam Gambhir's guidance, India has secured major titles such as the Champions Trophy and the T20 Asia Cup. Nevertheless, the Test cricket record remains a concern, with losses outnumbering victories.
